Hey everyone so last week was an amazing week. Man I love
this time of year, even though it's blazing hot outside some days I can still
feel the spirit of Christmas.
One really cool miracle that happened a couple
days ago involved one of our investigators, do you remember Shaker-Leah? The
Sudanese man? Well we've been praying and fasting for him and what we should do
because we haven't had much contact with him for a while and his previous
baptism date passed ages ago because we just haven't seen him enough to teach
him everything - but he's still super keen. So we prayed and we both decided to
reset his baptism date for January 31, 2015 and then we prayed again for a
confirmation for that specific date and when we did I saw in my mind Shaker
getting baptized so we took that as the confirmation from the spirit that by
the 31st he would be ready. And we were able to meet with him again yesterday
and when we were talking with him and where he thinks he's at with baptism I
told him exactly what happened when we were praying about his date. And he just
looked at me and said "yes". Man that was one of the best moments I've
had with him and his family too!
Another crazy thing that happened was with another investigator, her name is Laura and she's known the missionaries for a while
but she's never taken the lessons, she just has us do service for her. But a
couple days ago She let us in to talk to us about our Church. We pretty much
gave a run down of the restoration specifically centered on Joseph Smith and
the good ole Book of Mormon and now she wants to read it because it sounds so intriguing and she feels like she'll get some answers. Man it was huge! She went
from no lessons to wanting to read for herself! Truly a miracle. Plus tons of
other things have happened but I can't say them all because I don't even have
enough time! But I will always be grateful for the blessings and miracles that I've seen and been able to be a part of. They've humbled me alot because I've realized more and more each day that I can truly do nothing in the Lords work
without his help and power. Yeah I mean I can talk to people and try to tell
them about the Book of Mormon but without the Holy Ghost to carry it into their
hearts, nothing will change.
One skill that I've been working on is listening.
Listening to the spirit and also more closely to our investigators and what
they're really trying to tell us. I'm striving to do this because as
missionary's we are to teach and testify to their needs not just concerns.
People will throw out a million concerns before an inner need will reveal
itself and the challenge will be to find that need and testify to it. And the
only way we can do that is to be obedient and humble. I always reflect on Alma
26:12 when thinking about being humble. It's one of my favorite scriptures
that's helped me in my personal trials throughout my whole life. Love you all
and MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Elder Kaanapu
